Introduction of the Support for Seniors and Caregivers Act, 2025

Statement from CEO Donna Duncan

On the re-introduction of the Support for Seniors and Caregivers Act, 2025:

“Long-term care homes play a vital role in enabling seniors with high care needs to age in their communities when staying at home is no longer possible. The government’s historic levels of investment in long-term care staffing, programs, and capital have enabled workforce development, critical innovation, and improvements in care.  As Ontario’s long-term care homes continue their transformation to provide innovative, resident-focused models of care, we thank the government for their continued commitment to supporting and strengthening long-term care across the province.

The legislation introduced today contains many important measures that support ongoing innovation, enhanced programs and improvements in care across long-term care homes.  The legislation also introduces changes to the long-term care inspection and enforcement program.  Inspection and enforcement play an important role in long-term care to protect residents from harm.   We look forward to working collaboratively on refinements that will uphold the current zero-tolerance of abuse and neglect while also promoting a just culture of quality that celebrates the excellent care that’s delivered by homes and their staff.”
