At Perley Health, commitment to care goes beyond residents—it extends to nurturing the next generation of long-term care professionals. That’s exactly what happened for Navdeep Kaur, an RPN student at Algonquin College, who turned her hands-on learning into a full-time role through hard work, heart, and a deep respect for the seniors and Veterans she served.
Navdeep’s journey began in 2018, when friends spoke highly of the community of care at Perley Health. She was drawn to the home’s reputation for supporting professional development and fostering a culture of learning. While working as a Personal Support Worker, she enrolled in the Registered Practical Nurse program at Algonquin College and entered Perley Health’s “living classroom”—an on-site training partnership between the home and the college.
Throughout her placement, Navdeep’s dedication stood out. She was passionate about working with seniors, particularly those living with dementia, and admired the life experiences of the Veterans in care. “I like the work they have done for this country,” she shared. “And honestly, I like to serve Seniors and Veterans. I have a good place in my heart for them.”
Her impact was undeniable—and during what she thought was a routine interview for a profile feature, she was surprised on camera with a full-time job offer by Perley Health’s Talent Acquisition Specialist, Dustin Bilson. “This feels good,” Navdeep said through a smile. “I have actually been waiting for this for a long time.”
Navdeep’s story is a shining example of how long-term care homes like Perley Health create meaningful pathways for students to grow into compassionate professionals—and how a placement can turn into a purposeful career.
