Stories have the power to change how we see aging.
Location: Kitchener, Ontario
That feeling was clear at the premiere of The Green Bench, where more than 1,300 people gathered to celebrate ten years of the #ElderWisdom movement.
Representatives from the Ontario Long Term Care Association were honoured to attend the screening alongside residents, families, team members and community partners who have helped bring the Green Bench conversations to life over the past decade.
The room carried a sense of anticipation as the film began — and by the end, it was clear the stories shared had resonated deeply.
There were moments of laughter. Moments of reflection. And moments when the audience grew quiet as powerful memories unfolded on screen.
The Green Bench movement, led by Schlegel Villages, encourages people to pause, sit together and listen to the experiences of older adults. What began as a simple invitation to conversation has grown into a movement that challenges ageism and highlights the wisdom older generations bring to our communities.
Seeing more than a thousand people gather to celebrate those voices was a powerful reminder of how much these conversations matter.
Across long-term care homes in Ontario, residents continue to share their stories, experiences and leadership with the communities around them. Their voices connect generations and remind us that wisdom grows when it is shared.
For those who were unable to attend the premiere, the trailer offers a glimpse into the stories and journeys that make The Green Bench so meaningful.
Take a moment to watch.
