Premier Ford Unveils Changes to Cabinet

September 10, 2026

Ontario has announced changes to Cabinet, including new leadership in several portfolios that work closely with the long-term care sector. READ THE FULL NEWS RELEASE

We look forward to working with Premier Doug Ford and the Ontario Executive Council to protect Ontario’s economy and strengthen care for seniors.

Thank you to Premier Ford and Minister for Long-Term Care and Francophone Affairs, Natalia Kusendova-Bashta, for your continued and steadfast support for seniors across the province.

We also welcome:

Kinga Surma as President of the Treasury Board. Long-term care is often thought of as a health expenditure. It is also one of Ontario’s steadier economic engines, contributing $12.4 billion to the province’s GDP each year and supporting 166,000 jobs. It helps keep people working at a time when one in four working caregivers has had to cut back or step away from a job.

David Piccini as Minister of Infrastructure. Keeping pace with Ontario’s aging population depends on infrastructure as much as care. Our members are building new homes and redeveloping older ones, with 165 projects and 26,421 spaces already completed, underway or approved.

Trevor Jones as Minister of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development. Long-term care supports 166,000 jobs, and that workforce needs to grow alongside the 58,000 new and renewed spaces Ontario has committed to deliver. We’re encouraged that Ontario’s training investments are helping make long-term care a first choice for new graduates.

Michelle Cooper as Associate Minister of Mental Health and Addictions. Long-term care homes are increasingly supporting people living with serious mental illness, addictions and complex behavioural needs, including younger residents who have nowhere else to go. This work is still evolving, and we believe there is important work we can do together.

Solutions for Ontario seniors cross government ministries and all levels of government. We welcome the opportunity to support the government’s priorities and help ensure seniors receive the care they need today and in the future.

Quote from CEO Donna Duncan:

“We welcome Ontario’s renewed Cabinet and look forward to working together to strengthen our province.

We thank Premier Doug Ford and Minister Natalia Kusendova-Bashta for their steadfast support for seniors and long-term care.

As a vital part of Ontario’s health system and economy, long-term care contributes $12.4 billion to provincial GDP each year and supports 166,000 jobs.

From building and redeveloping homes to growing the workforce and supporting residents with increasingly complex needs, caring for Ontario’s seniors requires partnership across ministries and all levels of government.”
