Learn
about innovative technology during IAHSA tour
Global Aging Network to visit western U.S. sites this fall
Wednesday July 14, 2010 -- Camille Jensen
The International Association of Homes
and Services for the Ageing (IAHSA) and the Center for Aging Service
Technology (CAST) is hosting a technology study tour to highlight
the latest innovation and design, both in development and applied,
at four U.S. cities this fall.
From Oct. 20-30, stakeholders will be provided with an in-depth understanding
of aging services and senior living as they visit locations in Seattle,
Portland, Sacramento and San Francisco.
Key highlights of the tour include opportunities for discussions with
U.S. aging service leaders, including a roundtable in Seattle and
a meeting with key representatives of aging services in California.
In addition, there will be a meeting with Eric Dishman, an Intel Fellow
and director of health policy, as well as a tour of research laboratories
at the Oregon Health and Sciences University, which focuses on the
latest technology being developed for geriatric care.
Stops at service providers and demonstration sites employing innovative
service models and community-care programs are also planned.
This includes a visit to Eskaton, a provider of residences, community
services and health care to older adults in California and its national
demonstration home, which highlights how smart design and innovative
technology can allow seniors to age in place.
In San Francisco, delegates will visit three leading aging service
programs each offering a unique approach to care for the elderly.
The trip also provides participants with a tour of some well-known
U.S. tourist attractions including Pikes Place Market in Seattle and
Mount Rainier, an active Cascade volcano.
For those interested, there is an option to extend the tour and attend
the American Association of Homes and Services for the Ageing annual
meeting and exposition in Los Angeles Oct. 31.
According to IAHSA, space for attending this tour is limited and interested
participants are encouraged to register soon. To learn more about
the tour, click here.
IAHSA’s global aging network represents more than 20,000 aging
services providers who are profit, not-for-profit and governmental.
Its mission is to provide leadership through shared learning, enhance
quality through innovation and research and create a community across
borders.
