Monday January 11, 2010 -- Camille Jensen
President and CEO of Revera Inc. Jeffrey Lozon is one of 32 distinguished
Canadians to be appointed a member of the Order of Canada, announced
by Gov. Gen. Michaëlle Jean Dec. 30, 2009.
Lozon, who received notice of the appointment
by a telephone call from the Gov. Gen.’s office, says to be
to recognized in such a way is a “very special honour.”
“I don’t think anyone ever really
expects it and so it was pretty humbling when I heard about it,”
says Lozon, whose career in health care spans 31 years.
Lozon received the appointment for his innovative
and sustained leadership in health-care management and for advancing
patient care, most notably at St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto,
where he served as president and CEO for 17 years.
During that time Lozon says he is most proud of
the organization’s work in transforming the hospital from
serious financial crisis to “arguably one of the most efficient
hospitals in the country,” as well as the successful integration
of Wellesley Central Hospital with St. Michael's.
From 1999 to 2000 Lozon was seconded to serve
as the Deputy Minister of Health and Long-Term Care for the Province
of Ontario.
He also served as the vice chair for Canada Health
Infoway and past chair of the Canadian Partnership Against Cancer,
two positions Lozon hopes will have a lasting impact on the health-care
system.
Describing working in health care as “a
very special opportunity to give back to our society by creating
environments and providing care for individuals who need it,”
Lozon says he is looking forward to continuing his career in the
long-term care sector.
“I just think there are endless opportunities
in health care and in long-term care it’s really an emerging
area of real excitement,” says Lozon, who joined Revera in
June.
“This is an area that has enormous potential and an organization
like Revera has enormous experience dealing with seniors and with
aging, so we can really contribute to what’s going to happen
in our society on a going-forward basis.”
Several goals while serving as CEO are to ensure
the company operates at peak performance, while providing a stronger
continuum of care for seniors, irrespective of place.
The date of the induction ceremony for the new
members of the Order of Canada has not yet been set.
The Order of Canada is one of Canada’s highest
civilian honours, established in 1967 to recognize outstanding achievement,
dedication to community and service to the nation.
