New LTC home will provide benefits to residents and community
PeopleCare Oakcrossing London opening May 3

A new 160-bed peopleCare Inc.-owned long-term care home in London will be offering residents a state-of-the-art living experience, while providing about 200 people from the local community with meaningful employment, says peopleCare president and CEO Brent Gingerich.

Following several months of construction, peopleCare Oakcrossing London is slated to open its doors May 3. Construction is expected to be complete at the end of March, and April will be spent training team members.

“There are 200 well-paying health-care positions in the community (that will be created),” says Gingerich.

“This is certainly very positive for the community.”

Residents moving into the home can expect to find separate dining, lounge and activity space for every 32 beds, Gingerich.

He notes that another key benefit of the new home will be high levels of service integration that peopleCare is proposing for the home.

“For instance, we have a community clinic in the home where we are going to work with the Alzheimer Society to have an early dementia diagnosis clinic there, and do more community-type programs, such as offering flu-shot clinics and various other wellness programs,” says Gingerich.

Gingerich says the new home will be positioned to address alternate level of care (ALC) issues. People designated as ALC are those who are waiting to leave hospital, but who are not able to go back home.

“That’s where long-term care comes in to meet that need,” says Gingerich.

The home will also offer space for a “peopleCare academy,” which will offer training for staff members, as well as provide other community training initiatives.
