Diversicare
chosen for ‘Order of Excellence’ award
Friday, September 22, 2006 -- Craig Anderson
Long term care provider Diversicare has been chosen as the 2006 recipient
of the National Quality Institute’s (NQI) “Order of Excellence”
Award, an honour bestowed to Canadian organizations that show comprehensive,
sustained improvement in service.
It was the company’s ability, says Kathrin Cestnick, NQI Vice-President
and COO, to improve upon their performance since 2001, when they first
received an Excellence in Quality Award.
“They’re an incredibly well run organization,” says
Cestnick. “They’ve maintained and improved upon their
level of service.”
Cestnick explains that the criteria for the “Order of Excellence”
award is as comprehensive as possible – all facets of the company
are examined, including organizational process, client satisfaction,
supplier relations, staff treatment and relations and fiscal management.
NQI also examines trends within the organization over a period of
three years.
NQI, which has the Governor-General of Canada as principle patron,
is a not-for-profit organization that aims to be a leading authority
on workplace excellence. It assists companies through its “Roadmap
to Excellence” program, conducting reviews, workshops, and change
management counseling.
The award follows a detailed report sent in June 2006 by Diversicare
to NQI documenting how the company maintained and improved their service;
the result of vigilant adherence to their own “Continuous Quality
Improvement” program.
The company’s success, says Paul Richardson, President and CEO,
is employee-driven.
“This prestigious award reflects the contribution of every employee
to the company’s Continuous Quality Care program,” says
Richardson.
The CQI program, reads the company’s website, “represents
a philosophy that requires us to focus on our residents achieving
their fullest potential and on the process and outcomes needed to
deliver quality service. It centres on a belief that both residents
and employees have fundamental needs that must be met on a daily basis.”
Diversicare manages 15 retirement residences and 13 long term care
homes in Ontario. They also run eight retirement home in Western Canada.
The award will be presented to Diversicare at NQI’s annual Awards
Gala dinner, held Oct. 24th in Toronto.
