Liberals’ budget responds to resident needs: OLTCA

The Ontario Long Term Care Association is calling the provincial budget delivered Tuesday “a meaningful response to resident needs.”

The Liberals’ budget reaffirmed the government’s announcement last week of $191 million for long-term care to hire 2,000 employees. Karen Sullivan, executive director of the OLTCA, said there was also more good news in the budget.

“Today’s budget also contained a number of other measures that will benefit residents,” said Sullivan in a press release.

Long-term care and hospitals will receive one-time funding of $60 million to buy 12,000 bed lifts. Resident comfort allowances, money to purchase little luxuries, will increase by three per cent, the first climb in several years, noted Sullivan. Long-term care will also be exempt from the de-listing of physiotherapy services announced in the budget.

“This is an important day for the current and future residents of long term care,” Sullivan said. “We now look forward to working with government to translate these initiatives into the enhanced care, services and dignity that the residents who built this province deserve.”
